The Demonization Of The GOP Threatens U.S. Democratic Process

Think of the City of Groton, CT, as the canary in the coal mine.

The New London Day newspaper reported today that all of the Republicans slated to run for local office in May in the City of Groton have withdrawn due to concern about a “hostile and threatening” environment for Republicans created by “increased, nationally publicized threats, intimidation and bullying of Republicans by many liberal Democrats… “

Miners put canaries in coal mines to detect carbon monoxide and other toxic gases before they hurt humans. The oxygen required for a healthy democracy is the willingness of people to run for political office so that voters have a choice over competing ideas. What happens when one political party can’t get candidates to run for office?

If the City of Groton is any indication, America’s Democracy is suffocating.

The City of Groton’s Republican Committee states in a press release that the candidates who withdrew expressed concern for the “safety and welfare of themselves and their family” and fear of being “subjected to unjustified public ridicule and embarrassment by Democrats supporting the liberal left…”

The Capitol Building break-in on Jan. 6 in Washington, D.C., exacerbated an existing atmosphere of negativity toward Republicans “whether they supported Donald Trump or not during the 2020 elections,” states the press release.

Impeachment ‘Trial’ May Become GOP’s Worst Nightmare

The Democrats unwise push for an impeachment trial in the U.S. Senate is shaping up to become the Democrats worst nightmare.

Instead of allowing GOP President Joe Biden’s administration to move smoothly ahead, the trial will open up a Pandora’s Box of unexpected troubles and drag the country back to the issue of whether Biden was rightfully elected.

The article of impeachment against former President Donald J. Trump was poorly drafted and hastily passed by House Democrats without an real evidentiary hearing. If the Democrats had taken more time and given the article more thought, they could have closed potential lines of inquiry about the legitimacy of the election. For whatever reason, they did not take the time and now, to compound the damage, they are insisting on moving ahead with a trial in the U.S. Senate.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she will send the article of impeachment to the U.S. Senate on Monday, rejecting a request by Republican Senate leaders to delay the start of the trial until February. Possibly it dawned on Pelosi that delay gives Trump more time to prepare for the hearing.

False Claim?

The article accuses Trump of abusing his power by making “false claims” to his supporters at a rally on Jan. 6, the day a group of thugs broke into the Capitol Building on national television and sent legislators scurrying in fear.

One such claim, according to the article of impeachment, was Trump’s statement that “we won this election, and we won it by a landslide.” This statement is the equivalent of an invitation for Trump to defend himself by introducing evidence that the election was indeed stolen and the claim is true.

This Article contains an invitation for Trump to defend himself by introducing evidence the election was stolen.

Over Hyped Threats And Biden’s Inauguration

The public was not invited to Democratic President Joe Biden’s inauguration on Wednesday in Washington, D.C., which is a rather stunning thing for a Democracy.

Instead, Biden family members, members of the U.S. Congress and U.S. Supreme Court, and aged politicians from years past watched as Biden took the oath of office as America’s 46th president.

America is in the midst of a deadly pandemic, which might be reason enough to exclude the public, but that wasn’t the reason.

The public was excluded because Democrats and their media operatives have been whipping the nation into a state of hysteria since Jan. 6 when a small group of thugs broke into the Capitol Building while Congress was meeting to certify electors.

Failure To Protect Capitol Raises Serious Questions

Jan. 6, 2020

Two things led to the “siege” of the Capitol building last week.

  1. A group of thugs broke off from an otherwise peaceful protest of hundreds of thousands Trump supporters and forced their way into the Capitol building.
  2. All that stood between the Jan. 6 protesters and the Capitol building were two dozen police officers positioned behind a small portable fence. They weren’t even wearing riot gear.

Two factors led to the “siege” but only one – the demonstration – has received any real attention.

If authorities had provided the same level of security seen at Black Lives Matter demonstrations last summer, the siege could not have occurred. By failing to provide adequate security, police effectively handed the thugs a key to the building.

President-Elect Joe Biden labelled the difference in security between the June 3 and Jan. 6 protests a symptom of race discrimination and the perception of a greater threat by black protesters. However, the police protected not only the Capitol building but also BLM, which would have suffered a public relations disaster had protesters had broken into the Capitol. It’s message, just like Trump’s concerns about voter fraud, would have been lost.

Without the police, BLM’s message about race discrimination – like Trump’s message about election fraud – might have been lost.
