Ten Percent Of WY Voters Appear to Back Cheney Recall

U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney, R-WY, perhaps the most vocal of a small group of House Republicans who supported impeaching former GOP President Donald J. Trump, is now the subject of a wildly popular internet recall petition.

As of Sunday, more than 59,000 signatures were affixed to a Change.org “Recall Liz Cheney” petition. Wyoming has a population of 581,075.

The recall petition was created on Jan. 12 and states: “Liz Cheney does not speak for the people of Wyoming we have had enough of these swamp people this petition might not do much but maybe it will tell her we will not sit by and take it anymore”.

Almost 70% of voters in Wyoming voted for Trump in the past election.

Fortunately for Cheney, there is no law in Wyoming permitting the recall of a sitting House member so she’s safe for now. Cheney calls her vote to impeach Trump a vote of “conscience.”

Meanwhile, Cheney, the third most senior Republican in the House of Representatives, appeared on Sunday morning television interview shows and doubled down on her position that Trump should be impeached by the U.S. Senate when it convenes on Tuesday.

Cheney also raised the possibility of criminal action against Trump for “incitement of insurrection” on Jan. 6, when a mob broke into the Capitol Building.

Censured

Cheney, one of ten House Republicans to vote to impeach Trump, was censured Saturday by the Wyoming Republican Party. Only eight of the 74 members of Wyoming’s GOP central committee opposed the censure motion, which accused Cheney of denying Trump “due process.”

The daughter of former GOP Vice President Dick Cheney, she recently survived an attempt by fellow House Republicans to oust her from her role as GOP Conference Chair. The vote was 145 to 61.

GOP members are particularly irked that Cheney surprised the party when she publicly demanded Trump’s impeachment 36 hours prior to the House impeachment vote, just in time to lend support to the Democratic led effort.

The petition was started by Shelly Horn of Gillette, WY.

The New Salem Witch Trial

Marjorie Taylor Greene certainly isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but is she a “direct threat” to the U.S. government? A “cancer” to the Republican Party?

It seems the nation is being whipped into a wave of hysteria reminiscent of the Salem Witch Trials, which led to the hanging of a couple of dozen people (mostly women) for witchcraft in colonial Massachusetts.

Greene, a freshman Congresswoman from Georgia, is the main focus but no Republican seems safe in the wake of a group of thugs storming the Capitol Building on Jan. 6.

Greene is a supporter of former GOP President Donald Trump and has expressed views on social media that range from unorthodox to bizarre. She also posts Bible verses, anti-mask rhetoric and strongly advocates for gun rights. She is regularly demonized by the media for reportedly sympathizing with a group called QAnon, which holds that politicians, Hollywood big shots and journalists are part of an international pedophile ring.

Clearly, Greene would not be the choice of Democratic voters in St. Louis or San Francisco. But Georgia residents voted Greene into office in the past election by a healthy margin. She is not accused of breaking any laws. Should Greene be cancelled because her views do not align with the mainstream?

The Demonization Of The GOP Threatens U.S. Democratic Process

Think of the City of Groton, CT, as the canary in the coal mine.

The New London Day newspaper reported today that all of the Republicans slated to run for local office in May in the City of Groton have withdrawn due to concern about a “hostile and threatening” environment for Republicans created by “increased, nationally publicized threats, intimidation and bullying of Republicans by many liberal Democrats… “

Miners put canaries in coal mines to detect carbon monoxide and other toxic gases before they hurt humans. The oxygen required for a healthy democracy is the willingness of people to run for political office so that voters have a choice over competing ideas. What happens when one political party can’t get candidates to run for office?

If the City of Groton is any indication, America’s Democracy is suffocating.

The City of Groton’s Republican Committee states in a press release that the candidates who withdrew expressed concern for the “safety and welfare of themselves and their family” and fear of being “subjected to unjustified public ridicule and embarrassment by Democrats supporting the liberal left…”

The Capitol Building break-in on Jan. 6 in Washington, D.C., exacerbated an existing atmosphere of negativity toward Republicans “whether they supported Donald Trump or not during the 2020 elections,” states the press release.

Impeachment ‘Trial’ May Become GOP’s Worst Nightmare

The Democrats unwise push for an impeachment trial in the U.S. Senate is shaping up to become the Democrats worst nightmare.

Instead of allowing GOP President Joe Biden’s administration to move smoothly ahead, the trial will open up a Pandora’s Box of unexpected troubles and drag the country back to the issue of whether Biden was rightfully elected.

The article of impeachment against former President Donald J. Trump was poorly drafted and hastily passed by House Democrats without an real evidentiary hearing. If the Democrats had taken more time and given the article more thought, they could have closed potential lines of inquiry about the legitimacy of the election. For whatever reason, they did not take the time and now, to compound the damage, they are insisting on moving ahead with a trial in the U.S. Senate.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she will send the article of impeachment to the U.S. Senate on Monday, rejecting a request by Republican Senate leaders to delay the start of the trial until February. Possibly it dawned on Pelosi that delay gives Trump more time to prepare for the hearing.

False Claim?

The article accuses Trump of abusing his power by making “false claims” to his supporters at a rally on Jan. 6, the day a group of thugs broke into the Capitol Building on national television and sent legislators scurrying in fear.

One such claim, according to the article of impeachment, was Trump’s statement that “we won this election, and we won it by a landslide.” This statement is the equivalent of an invitation for Trump to defend himself by introducing evidence that the election was indeed stolen and the claim is true.

This Article contains an invitation for Trump to defend himself by introducing evidence the election was stolen.

Failure To Protect Capitol Raises Serious Questions

Jan. 6, 2020

Two things led to the “siege” of the Capitol building last week.

  1. A group of thugs broke off from an otherwise peaceful protest of hundreds of thousands Trump supporters and forced their way into the Capitol building.
  2. All that stood between the Jan. 6 protesters and the Capitol building were two dozen police officers positioned behind a small portable fence. They weren’t even wearing riot gear.

Two factors led to the “siege” but only one – the demonstration – has received any real attention.

If authorities had provided the same level of security seen at Black Lives Matter demonstrations last summer, the siege could not have occurred. By failing to provide adequate security, police effectively handed the thugs a key to the building.

President-Elect Joe Biden labelled the difference in security between the June 3 and Jan. 6 protests a symptom of race discrimination and the perception of a greater threat by black protesters. However, the police protected not only the Capitol building but also BLM, which would have suffered a public relations disaster had protesters had broken into the Capitol. It’s message, just like Trump’s concerns about voter fraud, would have been lost.

Without the police, BLM’s message about race discrimination – like Trump’s message about election fraud – might have been lost.
